1884 DSK

A recent girly catch up called for something a little bit special.
We needed a place to eat (and drink!) in Hull City Centre, and wanted a leisurely, luxurious lunch.

I have been to 1884 Dock Street Kitchen on an evening in the past and have not been disappointed. As I work on the Marina, I pass it every day but have not yet thought to try it for lunch. It seemed the perfect spot for our get together - we were again, definitely not disappointed!

We were welcomed at the door by a lovely girl who confirmed our booking and asked us to take a seat. The bar area was already very full, but there was one table left at the far end.
The atmosphere is just lovely. The room is bright and airy, the light fixtures are beautiful and there is light chatter all around - so you feel comfortable to talk, but can't hear anybody else!

We were brought both the lunch menu and standard menu and offered drinks almost immediately. The Merlot my friend requested was not available, yet our waiter offered an alternative she was happy with, without hesitation.

We chose dishes from the lunch menu because the choice was not only fantastic, it was so reasonably priced we couldn't believe it!
1 course - £8
2 courses - £12
3 courses - £16

The menu was short and sweet, with three options available for each course, but the descriptions were so fantastic, three choices were more than enough!

I opted for Mac N' Cheese topped with truffles and a baked duck egg, followed by strawberries with a creme fraiche sorbet and chocolate soil.

Seasonal vegetables - honey roast carrots and parsnips - were served with the main, which was a great touch.

Every mouthful was as beautiful as it sounds, and the presentation was just perfect. Trying to tell each other stories and eat at the same time was torture!

My only disappointment was I saw these macaroons on my way out. I would have certainly had one with a coffee to finish my meal if I had have seen them before!

1884 is a real treat on an evening, but I will certainly be back on a lunch time. The price, choice, service and atmosphere are all on pointe. I don't have a bad word to say about the place!

I also highly recommend their easy to use, fuss free online booking system which means you can book a table without even having a conversation! Excellent stuff.

I chose 1884 myself, booked and paid for my meal and was not asked to produce this review
